DRESSING THE TOWN

Reigate Business Guild plays an important part in dressing the town. It has funded the many flag poles and flags that line the main approaches to Reigate and its town centre.

The flags are erected to mark events of national importance and special occasions like the Jubilee and Coronation. Reigate Business Guild also commissioned special flags to commemorate Remembrance Sunday. Flags are also used to decorate the town for local events such as the Reigate Summer Festival.

The maintenance of the erected poles, the storage of the flags and the laborious task of raising them is managed by volunteers. If you would like to help on the next occasion, please contact us. No experience necessary, sometimes it’s a just holding a ladder but still a vital part of the process. You will be rewarded with a hot drink and a pastry!

At Christmas, Reigate Business Guild raises funds and organises the decorations and lights of the town centre. The lights cost around £20k every year to store, maintain and install. The monies are raised throughout the year through membership fees, fund raising events and donations – without which we would not be able to enjoy the illuminations that makes Reigate so special during the festive period.
