PSDS – Providing Support for Individuals with Down Syndrome and their Families
Contact: Helen Shiers

PSDS is a charity (established in 2006) providing exceptional support and specialist services for children and young people with Down syndrome and their families. Since January 2024 we have been based in our own building in Reigate – a very exciting development for PSDS and the families who access our services which currently include:
– coffee mornings and information sessions for new parents and their babies
– early development groups for children from 18 months to starting school
– access through specific services to speech and language therapy and occupational therapy
– a primary and secondary school support service including training and network sessions for teaching staff
– after-school activities including drama clubs
– youth groups and activities for teenagers and young adults focusing on life skills and social skills
– social events for the whole family
– parent-to-parent advice and support
Professionals working in healthcare or related fields also benefit from our services and expertise too.
PSDS is run by families for families and is fully self-funded, working hard to raise the £170,000 needed annually to provide our services. We work just as hard to raise expectations about what an individual who has Down syndrome can achieve, given access to the right levels of support and the same opportunities as everyone else.
