About Us

The aims of Reigate Business Guild are to:-

  • Promote Reigate as a place to come and visit/shop.
  • Make Reigate a more enjoyable place to work and live.

Reigate Business Guild also concerns itself with the environment within the town centre; making regular walkabouts to ensure that the streets are clean and tidy, the paving is safe and has had a large input into the replacement of cracked pavement with Yorkstone pavers.

Each Christmas, for a number of years, Reigate Business Guild has held a Christmas Extravaganza with businesses encouraged to put up a Christmas tree outside their premises. Street entertainment is provided to add to the atmosphere of the event with large crowds turning out to enjoy the festivities.

Reigate Business Guild has also arranged for Reigate Caves to be opened to the public with the help of the Wealdan Cave and Mine Society. This has proved such a great success that tickets sell out by 11.00AM! The event is repeated on several Saturdays during the course of the year and in May and September is traditionally combined with a vintage car display and a jazz band playing in the town - all adding to the vibrancy and feel of the town.

Over the last few years, a small but dedicated team of Guild members, have raised over £30,000 to facilitate the provision, erection and taking down of Christmas Lighting in the town. This is no mean feat by any standards and the group are already planning the further enhancement and extension of the Christmas lighting scheme and the associated fund raising.

The Guild is also actively involved in the "Shopwatch" scheme together with the local Police and Borough Council. In these times when particular towns seem to be targeted by thieves and criminal gangs, this scheme involves the setting up of a pyramid telephone system where suspected criminal intent in reported to the Police and other businesses within the town with a view to frightening off the criminals by everyone keeping a close eye on them.

The above is just a taster of the work of Reigate Business Guild and I would ask that you contact Jes Chandler (Chairman) on 01737 246886 if you would like to join Reigate Business Guild, attend a Committee meeting or if you simply require more details.
